Jeff Thomson Biography
“The more time I have in my studio the happier I am” `

Jeff Thomson was born in Auckland 1957. Drawing was his passion until he found corrugated iron. It was always drawing over writing and reading because of his dyslexia. Art helped him get through many struggles in life.

When he went to Auckland secondary school he had a good understanding of art. He was behind in reading and writing but he used art to find his way through.. He could draw quicker than he could write. The next step for Jeff was Elam school of art attached to Auckland University.  During university he took a year off and walked around the South Island of New Zealand. After that trip he started making letter boxes from corrugated iron.

An HQ holden car was one of his famous creations made from corrugated iron. He drove round in it for three years until Te Papa museum asked to display it. It was one of the most popular displays. In Taihape there is a giant gumboot that is also made from corrugated iron. An elephant towers over the entrance of Auckland zoo that attracts lots of tourists.

Jeff Thomson is important because he makes Australasia look wonderful in so many ways. His creations are very useful and helpful . He makes old corrugated iron into to new things we can use and see.

Jeff Thomson makes corrugated iron sing, dance and talk. It is a wonderful sight.
