Scene Writing

This week for writing we got to choose if we wanted to go to character description, speeches and scene writing. I chose scene writing with Mrs Love. I was really pleased with how it turned out and I felt like it was better than my previous one I wrote. I was particularly pleased with the adjectives I included. I had to do these things:

  • Has strong adjectives
  • Different sentence beginnings
  • Different sentence lengths
  • A simile and/or alliteration
  • Has an introduction, body and conclusion
  • Thoughtful word choices
  • Your own goal

As I fix my eyes upon the exquisite nature in front of me, I realize it's not a dream. The sunrise creeping upon the jagged hills creates a flash light effect. Trees in the distance have surrounded a hill of scattered rocks. White icy snow melts on the pointy hills. Grey clouds shield the blue sky making the attractive view look darker. Slippery rocks form steps for a water fall. A muddy pool of orange crunchy leaves perch at the end of the waterfall. Short grass covering a hill is as green as leaves on pine trees. The mountain has a dip that allows the scorching sun to appear. A perfect place for a family tramp.

Blossom Parade

I went to the blossom parade with my friends and it was really enjoyable. Up above is my Fotobabble it talks about the specific photos, it is a great app.The theme of the blossom parade was "Great Things Grow Here". There were schools, businesses and many more participating in the parade. Parkvale was even doing it. They were marching. My favourite was a float that had flowers made of colourful crepe paper. I saw lots of people that I knew and they gave me some lollies. I was really looking forward to the foam at the end. For once the man squirted the foam at me for at least about 5 seconds. My clothes were saturated at the end but it was worth it. It was enjoyable time at the blossom parade.

Hope you enjoyed!

Jeff Thomson Biography
“The more time I have in my studio the happier I am” `

Jeff Thomson was born in Auckland 1957. Drawing was his passion until he found corrugated iron. It was always drawing over writing and reading because of his dyslexia. Art helped him get through many struggles in life.

When he went to Auckland secondary school he had a good understanding of art. He was behind in reading and writing but he used art to find his way through.. He could draw quicker than he could write. The next step for Jeff was Elam school of art attached to Auckland University.  During university he took a year off and walked around the South Island of New Zealand. After that trip he started making letter boxes from corrugated iron.

An HQ holden car was one of his famous creations made from corrugated iron. He drove round in it for three years until Te Papa museum asked to display it. It was one of the most popular displays. In Taihape there is a giant gumboot that is also made from corrugated iron. An elephant towers over the entrance of Auckland zoo that attracts lots of tourists.

Jeff Thomson is important because he makes Australasia look wonderful in so many ways. His creations are very useful and helpful . He makes old corrugated iron into to new things we can use and see.

Jeff Thomson makes corrugated iron sing, dance and talk. It is a wonderful sight.

Matariki

I am blogging this because I love my poster and the rest of the work I have done.
I am proud of this because the way the poster came out was really great.

Success Criteria:
  • explains what the workshop was all about
  • shows why and how you enjoyed it (personal voice)
  • shares what you learnt
  • includes a photo of the activity (hopefully with you in it)
  • has that something extra special (e.g. instructions on how you could do the activity too)

Sewing was really fun because I got to do something that I have never done before. We got to make these denim wall hangings that were all different colours. We learnt to hand stitch some stars and do a special knot.  My wall hanging looks really cool and I got to have one of the best experiences yet. I felt really nervous when I went to sew because just before Mrs Beswick said that it really hurt when you sew your finger. My sewing machine was a bit old so it was hard to go slow and steady. It took me a while to get the hang of it but I got there in the end. We ironed the boat on and ironed the stars on as well. I found it amazing how I got to spend a day doing something really cool.

Success Criteria:

  • in your own words
  • summarises main ideas about Matariki
  • clear and easy to understand
  • has the creative “x factor”

This is my poster

Rock climbing

"Wow," I yell as I glaze up at the tall rock climbing walls.  I gave it a go and didn't make it to the top until I got to dad. I was so proud of myself. The next wall, the next wall and the next wall I made it, but when I came to Mrs Roil's wall it was hard, but I kept trying until we had to go. I had fun and wanted to do it for my birthday. What a great day!

Item

I was strolling to the hall and my hands were all clammy I tried to calm myself down, it didn’t work. I arrived through the door and BAM I was as nervous as a dancer on a stage in front of a 10,000 people. There were parents and kids already there. I said to myself, be brave Georgia, be brave. I stood on the stage and listened to the poems. I clapped and started to feel just a tiny bit more confident. It was time to do the dance move your body. I had energy to burst out that was desperate. I was getting more confident with every single move. After a while I was enjoying it so much I was giving it my best shot. It was my dance now with some other friends of mine it was to the song wild wild west. We had some funky cowboy hats on and some bandannas and very cool vests. I stood there in front of the crowd with my mates waiting for the music. The music started a I jumped around dancing my heart out and also counting the counts 5,6,7,8. I was puffing hard out “ha ha” but it still felt like I had lots and lots of energy left. The music went on for ages well at least I thought it did. I ran back to my place and started swaying side to side listening to poppy’s beautiful singing. It was room 7 time to sing know. I could smell the sweat that room 7 had dripping down their body. I was brave and started singing the best I can even though I was probably flat. After three courses we got to dance how ever we want. Me Blair, Paia and Tiaana all did back to back together it looked really cool. We did some duggie together and some clicks. The song stopped all of a sudden I thought to myself DJ Kory must have stopped the music “oh well”. I thought to myself I want to do it again. It was fun!!
